Week 14 - Milestone Projects

Very First Assignment - Build a Building Looking back at this very first assignment I remember how frustrating it was to try and make something in a software I  knew so little about using. If I were to redo this assignment now, it would be a much smoother (and more organized) process, and I would know how to better use reference images to increase accuracy. Project 1 - Laser cutting The laser cutting project was such a blast, and I love how the final piece turned out. I think it's funny how much more intuitive I found Rhino as a vector drawing program than Illustrator, which I was also learning to use at the time. Rhino's incredible snapping system have forever branded my usual Adobe software a tragic disappointment in comparison. Most of the art I do is digital, and I really love opportunities like this project to bring my digital work into the word as a real physical object.  As for doing part of this project differently, I would really just want more practice working in thi...

Week 2 - Shapes

  I had a lot of fun doing this project, it helped me learn the commands really solidly. I also feel like I got a much better understanding of the different snap options from this practice. The only shape I struggled to make was this one. I found the fillet command was difficult to use and ended up going through a rather complicated process involving a lot of extra reference lines/shapes that got deleted in the end. This method also focused on just filleting one point in the star then copying it repeatedly using the rotate command. Looking back on this image an alternate method could have bee to make the circle using the tangent (to make it more exact - I was just using the circle for approximate fillet radius) and then use trim and complete skip using the fillet command. I don't know if there is a better/easier way to do it, but I was able to figure out my own method to complete the shape, even if it was rather complicated.

Week 6 - Organic Object

3D scanning objects with my phone was so cool! I had no idea that it was possible and they turned out really good with very little effort. I scanned a few simple sculptures and stuffed animals I had and I like them too much to not include them all here. Narwhal 3D Model BLAHAJ 3D Model This slug fidget toy was the most difficult to scan, and ended up with worst scan, but I really wanted to try modelling it in Rhino because of its combination of geometric and organic shapes.  Slug 3D Model I took several photos of the slug toy to import into Rhino to base my modelling off of. I found the hardest/most annoying part of this project was trying to align and scale the reference images to each other so I could model accurately. I started out attempting to model the more organic shapes of the slugs antenna, using the Sweep2 command and CageEdit, but had issues with the refence images not being the same scale and ended up redoing this part later on.  Next I started started making ...
