Week 14 - Milestone Projects

Very First Assignment - Build a Building Looking back at this very first assignment I remember how frustrating it was to try and make something in a software I  knew so little about using. If I were to redo this assignment now, it would be a much smoother (and more organized) process, and I would know how to better use reference images to increase accuracy. Project 1 - Laser cutting The laser cutting project was such a blast, and I love how the final piece turned out. I think it's funny how much more intuitive I found Rhino as a vector drawing program than Illustrator, which I was also learning to use at the time. Rhino's incredible snapping system have forever branded my usual Adobe software a tragic disappointment in comparison. Project 3 - Concept

For this project I would really like to try and make a simple custom ball jointed doll using resin 3D printing. I want to try to make something similar to Bucket, as he has a humanoid design, but is still fairy simple, composed mostly of geometric shapes. I would really like to try printing in resin as is appears to be the standard for BJDs and miniature figures due to it's higher quality when printing small detailed, sculptural shapes. I plan on using a local 3D printing service. I am also interested in trying to learn how to use Blender for this project, as it has more capability for organic sculpting, which would be really useful if I want to ever try making sculptures to 3D print in the future. One aspect of making a BJD that I think will be challenging will be making all of the joint functional. Project 2 - Building Object

The object I am recreating digitally for this project is this music box. I started by disassembling it into all its separate components. Most of the modelling was pretty simple, starting by drawing in 2D using measurements from the object. Then I was able to extrude the 2D drawings into 3D shapes. I did a mixture of building the shape of the object and building the negative shapes to subtract from the object. For the "drum" of the music box, I tried giving it a different song. I used a website  that works like a digital music box and found a song I liked.  I used a screenshot of the song and the "comb" I had modelled as references for where to put the bumps on the drum that hit the "keys" of the music box. In order to get the 2D representation of the song onto the cyclical "drum" I had to first use the unwrap command  to get a flat plane the exact size of the outside of the cylinder.
